The Church Stretton Arts Festival starts in less than a month, and tickets are selling fast. No wonder, most of them are cheaper than last year! Festival Vice Chair, Joan Arnfield, says “We urge customers to book quickly while there is still some choice.”
This year the festival is presenting some interesting combinations of instruments and genres. For instance internationally famous guitar duo, the Katona Twins, have a varied programme “From Handel to Hollywood” which includes selections from West Side Story in addition to Spanish favourites and the twins’ own arrangements of popular classical pieces.
Another duo – Meraki – present new interpretations of work from Schubert and Dvorák classics through Piazzolla to Pascoal and Gismonti folk rock, all performed on flute and guitar.
Piano lovers are in for a treat, too, when talented pianist Reiko Fujisawa brings three of her friends along to narrate and perform on flute and French horn. They will be exploring the theme of “Flowers and Forests”.
These are just a few of the performances. There’s a massive Art Exhibition, 9 free morning concerts, drama and poetry and a family friendly show for 5 to 12 year-olds.
