How to use www.visitshropshirehills.co.uk to market your business

As a member of www.visitshropshirehills.co.uk you will know that we work together to promote the Shropshire Hills and our local market towns to encourage visitors to visit our wonderful area.

Make the most of the website and our social media campaigns to promote your business – we really do want you to join in our activities… the more business that actively engage, the more information we can get out to potential visitors  to come and stay and enjoy exploring.

Our website is designed so that you can edit your requirements yourself.  Here is a Brief Guide

Member information
This can be found on every page – in the bottom right.  It has all the links highlighted below

Updating your website entry
Please make sure that you website entry is up to date and your photos are attractive and clear as possible, with an informative caption.  You can update your page yourself by visiting our website members log in on this page
A good tip is to avoid including details that need regularly updating e.g. dates/ prices.  The entry always refers visitors to your own website…so they can find all the up to date details they need.
If you would prefer us to do the update, then send the details you want updated to enquiries@visitshropshirehills.co.uk

How to Optimise Your VSH Website Listing
We’ve been busy working ‘behind the scenes’ on the VSH website for some time now, to improve the readability and discoverability of the site. We’re pleased to say that the improvements are making a difference and we now have around 60,000 visitors to our website each year – and that’s growing about 15% each year!

If you want to improve your own listing even more, our membership secretary Dave Wright has produced some notes to guide you:

If you have any questions, email Dave at dave.wright@talktalk.net

Adding an event
If you would like to list your event on our Events page, please go to https://www.visitshropshirehills.co.uk/whats-on/  and click on the link.   This is then available to all visitors to the website and is featured on other local websites like https://shropshire-events-guide.co.uk/ .  If you run a special event, write about it in general terms in your business entry “local agricultural show every August” and then take advantage of our Events page to publicise the specific details/prices/opening hours for each year

Newsletter
We do 6 newsletters to members a year to our members.  Each one includes forthcoming events, so keep us updated in advance.  If you would like to  feature on the newsletter, give us your copy/photo, but make sure it is relevant to our members.   To subscribe to the members newsletter follow this link   To unsubscribe from the members newsletter – click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter

News/blog
We have two blogs on our website.  One visitor focussed on this link   and the other with news for members on this link.  If you would like to add a blog/news item, just let us have the copy in a “Word doc” together with photos and tell us which blog you would like the article to feature on.  Let us know if you would like us to feature this on our social media campaign too

Social Media Campaign
We have employed local social media expert Karen Thorne of the @bedandbreakfastacademy to handle our social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram.  Make sure you follow us on Facebook @visitshropshirehills and Instagram @visitshropshirehills.

What Do You Need to Do?
You don’t need to be an expert in Social Media. Here’s some advice from our Social Media Manager Karen Thorne:

  1. Tag @visitshropshirehills in your Instagram posts for a chance to be featured on our Stories or main feed.
  2. It can speed things up if you also send a direct message letting Karen know you’re a member and that you’re happy for her to use your photos
  3. If you’re creating a post you’d like us to share, you can also use the Collaborate feature to send us a request. We don’t accept every request (it can get a bit much!), but we do prioritise posts from our members where possible.
  4. All members are also entitled to a dedicated post on the main feed. We email all new members to offer this, but those messages can sometimes end up in spam folders. So if you’ve recently joined and haven’t heard from us—or if you haven’t had a feature in a while—just drop Karen a message on Instagram or email her directly and we’ll get something arranged.

We love helping visitors discover all the brilliant places to eat, stay and explore across the Shropshire Hills!

Members Photo Library
a selection of photos that can be used for your own website and publicity can be found on the Members Photo library at this link. Just browse through the collection which is held on Dropbox.  If you would like to share your own photos with other members (e.g. to encourage their guests to visit your business), please feel free to send them to enquiries@visitshropshirehills.co.uk, labelled up with the name of your business or location and we will add them to the photo library.

Training events
We run training events and meet ups on an adhoc basis.  Look out for details in our members newsletter and join in!
