There are annual arts festivals in some of the main towns across the Shropshire Hills – Ludlow, Church Stretton, Bishop’s Castle and Much Wenlock – as well as walking festivals in and around Bishop’s Castle and Church Stretton. And, of course, Ludlow is celebrated for its various food and drink festivals, celebrating the very best of local produce. Ludlow Fringe Festival brings the town to life in the second half of June Church Stretton and South Shropshire Festival takes place across two weeks at the end of July and the start of August, at a range of venues in and around the town. Bishop’s Castle Open Studios runs on the second weekend in June, with Bank House acting as an information hub.
Other popular festivals include Michaelmas Fair is a day full of colour, dancing, steam, music and entertainment (see video here). Plus we have a fair selection of Beer Festivals – unsurprising given the number of craft breweries. More details on most festivals and events can be found on the Events page, or by following the links below.
With many thanks to Shropshire Hills AONB for this data.

Come and walk in our beautiful rolling Shropshire hills and raise money for blood cancer research.
This circular Ramble (23 miles) runs between Bishops Castle and Clun, taking in Bury Ditches, the Walcot Estate and bits of the Shropshire Way and Offa’s Dyke.
It divides into a fairly gentle Amble (10 miles), more challenging Scramble (13 miles) and shorter distances if you choose.
We mark the routes thoroughly with arrows, and send detailed maps with instructions in roughly 3-mile sections to your email address.
Enter by donating £10 per person to Blood Cancer UK via: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jeanshirley
and contacting firstname.lastname@example.org for your pack and further information.
Apply between March 1 and May 16. After that, you decide when to walk between May 17 – 30, on which route or routes and with whom.
You provide your own refreshments and, most importantly, are responsible for your own safety.
Our first aim is for you to enjoy the walking and the scenery. If you feel able to get sponsorship for Blood Cancer UK, that would achieve our second aim and make us very happy. Give your friends the justgiving link above.
