The Castle Hotel has been offering great value accommodation since 1719. So we’ve had a lot of practice you see. One of the first Landlords was Clive of India!

The Castle Hotel has twelve lovely bedrooms, all en-suite, TV, pillows, sheets, all mod cons you see. Many have delightful views over the town to the hills beyond. No passing traffic either, so you’ll awake refreshed. And all suffused with that elusive “Away from it all” feeling. How can you not stay awhile?

Dining

South Shropshire has a long history of culinary excellence. Ludlow is just down the road, and for a while boasted more Michelin starred restaurants than London itself. We don’t do Michelin at The Castle, but we certainly use many of the same local suppliers. We’re spoilt for them actually. What our busy kitchen aims to produce is modern pub food that is healthy, hearty, flavoursome and fresh. And great value of course.

And you’ve a wide choice of eating venues at The Castle. Each of the three bars has its own individual character, some with open fires, some with terraces out into the garden. Or try our more genteel oak panelled restaurant, believed to feature in the Mary Webb novel “The House in Dormer Forest”.

And when the weather is warm, (and remember it’s always sunny in Shropshire), our beautiful south facing gardens with fantastic terrace and raised fish ponds provide the perfect spot for a light repast and a cooling beverage.

Bishop’s Castle

The Castle Hotel is an excellent base for visiting the Shropshire Marches, and the surrounding Shropshire Hills. Bishop’s Castle itself is a little gem, with a plethora of ancient buildings, cobbled streets, and quirky independent shops. People visit Bishop’s Castle and become smitten. They give up their jobs and move here!
The nearby towns of Clun, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Welshpool are all within easy reach. The South Shropshire Hills, including The Longmynd, The Stipperstones, Offa’s Dyke and the wild border country all offer excellent walking and cycling.
After a leisurely day exploring this rather special corner of England, put your feet up and sample a relaxing beer from one of the towns several micro-breweries. Enjoy a good meal, or just relax in our fabulous elevated beer garden looking out over the town to the hills beyond.
