With beautiful castle ruins as its backdrop it plays hosts to Shropshire and the surrounding counties most popular and prolific food & drink suppliers. But why Ludlow? The brainchild of the local District Chamber of commerce, in 1995, they collectively decided to take the step to evolve the traditional street market into a festival for local traders and customers from across the county.
Sitting high above the River Teme, the castle, built in 1085 is a dominant fixture to the Ludlow skyline and a dominant figure in Shropshire. Hosting varied and engaging architecture from both the medieval and Tudor periods, the build of the castle was the catalyst for the expansion of Ludlow itself. The markets have been a staple fixture in the market town for many many years, providing a stable economy with both tourism and residents.
With the rolling countryside, stunning views and perfect setting Chefs and restaurateurs began to see Ludlow as a place to base their upcoming restaurants. With the local produce and booming trade it put Ludlow on the map.
Giving the festival a chance to become a real go-to event on the calendar.
