Walking & Hiking

The extraordinary variety of the landscape of the Shropshire Hills draws people from near and far to enjoy its great outdoors in many different ways.

The area lends itself to gentle exploration, whether on foot, on two wheels or on horseback. The Shropshire Hills offer something for all types of walker – from easy riverside strolls with young children, to quite serious upland treks across wide-open moorland and over rugged summits.

The extensive network of waymarked paths ranges from local routes to long distance routes, like Offa’s Dyke National Trail and the Shropshire Way, or the new Heart of Wales Line Trail.

At the same time, its quiet country lanes have long drawn cyclists to the area – along with the best country pubs and cafés for that well-deserved refreshment stop. With good quality cycles available for hire there’s no need even to bring your own with you.

Whether you own your own horse or prefer to find a suitable mount at a local stable, once again the Shropshire Hills are ideal.  An excellent network of traffic-free bridleways and horse-friendly refreshment stops mean you and your trusty stead can relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside from that special vantage so cherished by equestrians.
