Religious history of the Shropshire Hills

The Dissolution of the Monasteries during the reign of Henry VIII was another time of turbulence, witnessed in the Shropshire Hills by the ruins at Buildwas and Wenlock. Buildwas is a former Cistercian abbey, on the banks of the Severn, and the ruins include its unusually unaltered 12th century church and beautiful vaulted chapter house with tiled-floored.

Wenlock Priory, on the edge of Much Wenlock, is a ruined 12^th century monastery, reputedly the final resting place of St Milburga. The grounds include a collection of topiary.
