Experiences for thrill-seekers in the Shropshire Hills
The Shropshire Hills are full of adventure and thrills, with a number of well-equipped specialists in and around the area.
So you fancy yourself as a bit of a Bear Grylls, then a bushcraft or survival course with Chris Hughes Multi Activity Services could be just for you! Chris has been interested in bushcraft and wilderness living since his youth and has a raft of qualifications to prove you’ll be in safe hands. One-day activity courses and overnight courses will teach you skills, such as shelter-making, camp fire cooking, natural navigation, foraging and wood carving.
Long Mynd Walking provides a guided walk service on and around the Long Mynd and runs bushcraft courses based at Womerton Farm Bunkhouse. Skills covered include: fire-lighting; shelter-building; wild foods; rabbit-skinning; water sources; tools and their use; identifying and conserving flora and fauna; maps and mapping; hedge and footpath maintenance; and nest boxes.
Gateway Outdoors is an accredited outdoor activity provider, based near Shrewsbury, but providing a range of different adventures in the Shropshire Hills. The company makes best use of beautiful locations for rock climbing and abseiling and even offers caving adventures in the area’s lead mines. It also offers mountain bike hire by the day and mountain bike coaching, as well as a guided walk service.
The Edge Adventure is based on Wenlock Edge, and has its own residential accommodation on site. This well-equipped location offers you the chance to take part in many different adventures, including Segway, quad biking, mountain boarding, sniper and clay pigeon shooting, archery, Jacob’s ladder, zip wire and team-building. The Edge Adventure
Live the Adventure is based near Cleobury Mortimer. From its 30-acre site, the company offers a wide range of activities for individuals or groups, including air rifle shooting, archery, “caving” in the centre’s purpose-built tunnel system, climbing wall, laser, mountain boarding, canoeing (in the River Severn), paintball, slacklining, orienteering – even a fun and safe way of jousting. Live the Adventure
Oaker Wood Leisure is based near Ludlow and it offers accommodation at its own glamping site, alongside a wide range of activites, including paintball, quad biking, raft building, clay pigeon shooting, low and high ropes courses, tree trekking, target shooting, and “woodland Krypton” – as well as pizza oven days, holiday club and It’s a Knockout. Hen and stag and corporate groups are welcome. Activities must be pre-booked and most require a minimum group size of eight people.
