  • The Stables is an old Drovers’ Inn perched high in the Shropshire hills and has been serving the local and farming community since 1680.  We serve great, locally sourced, food & drink in traditional welcoming surroundings.  It’s a pub that celebrates standing still, a step back into a simpler age, an oasis of calm in an ever changing, busier world.

Why not come along for a drink and a bite to eat in front of a roaring log fire? We don’t have music, piped or otherwise. Nor do we go in for theme nights, Karaoke or midget throwing competitions.  What you will get is a chance to stay in a real pub, with real people who enjoy a quiet drink, great food, with good company around a roaring log fire.

Or, if you have a few days to explore the Shropshire countryside, come and stay with us.  You’ll be made very welcome indeed.  In the 18th & 19th Century this original drovers’ inn was licensed for 11 beds.

In 2012, we completely renovated the sleeping accommodation and now offer two double bedrooms. Once you go through your private original 17th century doorway you will be greeted with a wealth of old original oak beams, low doorways and local stone walls. The two rooms are serviced by one large central bathroom and, therefore, the accommodation is perfect for sharing with family or friends.   The large bathroom has both a shower and a bath to help you, either, wake up and enjoy your day sightseeing or walking or relax after a hard slog around the Shropshire hills, speaking of which, you will have a lovely view of the Stiperstones hills from the bathroom window!  Please note – you will NEVER share your bathroom unless your party has booked the other room.

All rooms are double glazed and centrally heated.  The main room has a Queen size bed the other, two singles.  Both have luxurious memory foam mattresses, goose down duvets and plenty of comfy pillows for a great night’s sleep.

In addition to standard B&B accommodation we also have a Shepherd’s Hut in the grounds. The ultimate “glamping” experience, your very own Shepherd’s hut overlooking the Stiperstones Hills, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.  Custom built for the pub in 2013 by a local craftsman, the shepherd’s hut is a real “get away from it all” experience.  The hut comes complete with a double bed, electricity, log burner, BBQ, firepit and tea & coffee making facilities.  Just to make your stay even more comfortable we have built a shower cabin just a few feet from your door – you can enjoy all the comforts of a luxury bathroom but still live the simple life.
