  • Escape to the country and “Shelve all your worries” in our ideal retreats for couples. Try a luxury relaxing self-catering cottage holiday in the beautiful Shropshire Hills – the perfect getaway destination. Stunning viewswonderful walking, peace and comfort, in easy reach of Ludlow, Shrewsbury, the Ironbridge Gorge, Long Mynd and the Stiperstones Hills.

There are two comfortable holiday lets at Lower Farm in the Shropshire Hills each ideal for one or two people – Cranberry Cottage and Stiperstones View both providing lovely self-catering holiday accommodation.  There is ample space for parking and a private patio area with outdoor table and chairs for each accommodation, giving fine views down the valley, and catching the sun. Mobile phones don’t work here so you can leave work behind (though there is wifi for email if you must)!

    Cranberry Cottage

This 21st century conversion from a cow byre is a cosy and stylish holiday cottage hideaway for two people. (Take a virtual tour on StreetView) This self-catering accommodation in the Shropshire Hills gives a luxury rural retreat with peace and tranquillity. The holiday let is situated a short distance from the owners’ house, while the old farmyard stone walls create shelter and privacy without impeding the interlocking views down the valley. The cottage accommodation consists: a large open-plan electrically heated living room with wood-burning stove, picture window and flat screen television; fully equipped kitchen/dining area with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher; one separate double bedroom; shower room with hand basin and WC. There is a sofa-bed in the living room for separate sleeping. Floor area is 44sq m, 475 sq ft.

The cottage is all on the ground floor with level access so suitable for some with restricted mobility. This cottage is pet-friendly for small well-behaved dogs, provided they are kept separate from the sleeping areas at night. We make a small charge per dog to cover provision and laundry of additional furniture covers. Dogs must be accompanied at all times and kept on a lead.

    Stiperstones View

This comfortable holiday let provides the ideal location for a peaceful, relaxing break. The self-catering apartment (see video on Youtube or Google View) is reached by a fairly steep staircase to an expansive space which once housed farm workers, and has perhaps the best views on the whole property, both to the east to Stiperstones and also south with a range of interlocking hills. The self-catering holiday accommodation for 2 comprises a modern kitchen with fridge, oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher, plus a table and chairs for dining; a shower room with shower, hand basin and WC; and a large airy bed-sitting room with kingsize double bed, windows on two sides giving lovely views, lounge area with flatscreen television and DVD player. Total floor area is 45sq m, or 485 sq ft.  This is a pet-free cottage.

The small village of Shelve enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding hills, from the Stiperstones in the east to the majestic Corndon Hill just over the Welsh Marches border to the west, dark skies and tranquility. Shelve is between Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Montgomery and Shrewsbury.

Shropshire Hills Cottages are at Lower Farm, a smallholding in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The house and outbuildings have been lovingly restored using sustainable materials and traditional building techniques. This has created two generously proportioned, luxury, airy, beamed, holiday cottages. You are welcome to wander over our four acres of pastureland, which are home to a couple of dozen sheep. The vegetable garden, from which visitors enjoy produce in season, is run on organic principles.

Rent includes bed-linen, towels and electricity. Also provided are normal kitchen consumables like washing up liquid, dishcloth, pan scrubber, tea towels and dish washer tablets, plus shampoo and soap for the bathroom. We provide a small welcome basket with sachets of tea, coffee hot chocolate, sugar, biscuits and home made preserves.

Friday and Monday are normal changeover days in our holiday rentals, but short breaks of 2 nights or more are welcome in these Shropshire self catering cottages. If you have specific arrival or departure dates please contact us as we try to be flexible when possible.

There are a variety of walks starting from the property, ranging from a leisurely stroll to Shelve Pool (a SSSI due to the way the vegetation grows on the water surface), a trip round ancient mine remains, or a long walk to Bishops castle on the Shropshire Way. All these walks are feasible without a car.
