  • Country house hotel & restaurant on river Teme, amidst beautiful gardens and countryside – award winning restaurant open to non-residents. Superb walking & birdwatching – special breaks available. AA Courtesy & care award NAS 3.The hotel is personally managed by the resident owners James Sheehan & Zoe Carter. Our chef produces excellent food using local produce and home grown vegetables. There is an excellent wine list.

We have three acres of lovely gardens, a wildlife pond and wooded area, a croquet lawn, riverside walks, terrace for outdoor dining. Fly fishing on the Teme.

We are located only 20 minutes from Ludlow, in superb walking, cycling and bird watching country. The roads are very quiet so driving is a pleasure.

Milebrook House seems a natural part of this peaceful and perfectly picturesque landscape. An elegant and notably historic building, on the English / Welsh border and the River Teme. A secret garden surrounds the house on all sides, creating a haven for wildlife, and a special sanctuary for guests.

Originally built in 1760, the house has been host to many varied inhabitants. Once a dower house of nearby Stanage castle, it was a place of refuge for the Emporer of Ethiopia, Haille Selaisse, during the Italian invasion in 1936, and was the family home of the famous writer and explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger, as certified by a blue plaque outside.

In the gardens you can wander along the bountiful boarders of pink peonies and oversized daisies down to a wooden door that lead into the hotels own private woodland. Beyond the woods is a trail leading to a brook that becomes the river Teme, a perfect spot to contemplate and listen to the water set against the backdrop of the Shropshire hills.

Everything about this hotel is genuine and unique. Great care has been taken to create a sense of character and charm,  the heritage palettes and classical art reflect a sense of reassuring nostalgia to past times, while some of the more modern artworks and furniture reference a nod to a more contemporary feel.

In recent years the house’s welcoming rooms and private gardens have played host to a number of discerning guests seeking an escape from the hustle bustle of busy, modern life.
